Finding Heroes

People's stories are what matter to me. It's those stories about the things they've done and seen and felt that help us to understand one another. In our community there are so many people with so many stories. In our community there are so many people who strive and struggle to do good. Sometimes that good is big. A woman might save a dog from a fire. A man might go fight for his country. Sometimes that good is smaller. A woman might compliment a sad child. A man might embrace love. But I think each of those acts are acts of heroicism.

I used to write columns for the Ellsworth Weekly when I was an editor there. Now, I blog on the Ellsworth American's website. It isn't a political blog. It isn't even a writing blog or one of those blogs where women post a lot about their kids. It's a blog about heroes in our towns. I know it's a little thing. But these people... these people... they are worth celebrating.
